If you ever visit or fly into San Juan, Puerto Rico, you must go visit the 16th-century citadel known as Castillo San Felipe del Morro.
I have been to several historic forts, and this was by far the best. If you visit on a sunny day, you’ll also get great views of the Caribbean Sea and the old city of San Juan.
Tickets to get in are about $40 USD per person, and it is totally worth it. You’ll definitely want to bring sun protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc.) and wear comfortable walking shoes, as there is a lot of ground to cover. There are many tunnels and staircases to explore, as well as cool places to take photo ops.
We stopped here on our way from the airport to our destination in Rio Grande. It will only take you an hour or so, and then you can walk around Old San Juan if you have time. It’s within walking distance of restaurants too, making it convenient stop on your itinerary.
